Help with a draft resource on Business Continuity in HE

05 September 2017      Matt Sisson, Projects and Membership Manager

Fifteen colleagues from across the sector were interviewed by UCISA earlier this year to create an accessible, draft publication on business continuity, for use in universities. The intention was to show why everyone across the institution should have an interest in business continuity.

The guide looks at how different professional groups including registrars, finance teams, student services, and others might prepare for an incident such as a sustained DDOS attack on the academic network or a flood at a hall of residence, and what the impact would be for them and their business activities. It also explores how relatively minor issues such as the absence of a key member of staff at a critical time can escalate into widespread disruption to business processes.

UCISA has asked that members from the finance community read the draft document and offer their feedback, as part of efforts to improve it before it reaches its final form. The document can be downloaded here, and comments are requested by Tuesday 3 October. It is preferred that colleagues comment using Google Docs, but if you prefer you can also send comments direct to Anna Mathews. If you know of someone in your organisation for whom this is relevant, please consider forwarding this email to them – UCISA are happy to receive multiple responses from your university or college.

In addition to general comments or specific feedback on individual chapters, UCISA would like to know if you think anything is missing from the document, how it could be improved, and if you have any templates, case studies, resources, or images that could be used in the final publication.
