Efficiency recording / Spikes Cavell

03 May 2017      Emma Keenan, Procurement Specialist

Universities record efficiencies, for their own use and for EMM, VFM and other reporting, in a variety of ways. Many universities have developed their own excel-based solutions, while others simply collate the data at the end of each financial year. We also know that some universities have been using the now expired Spikes Cavell “Measure” tool.

To help those looking for a new or alternative way to record efficiencies we have developed an easy to use tool in line with the new benefits methodology announced last year. The Excel tool allows you to complete one form per project, automatically completing some fields in line with agreed values. Whilst the tool cannot work in the same way as the Spikes Cavell solution, we provide another one page spreadsheet, which can be adapted by you, upon which you can transfer the figures from each individual project report into the appropriate field to give you annual totals in each area.

As you will know, we are reviewing the EMM as a whole. Part of this project is to review how we can make it easier for you to record the required information throughout the year. The ultimate goal being that we can provide you with a tool which will automatically populate the EMM database with the required information rather than it being managed manually. Whilst this is a work in progress we hope that the tool we have provided will help you in the interim.

You can access the individual project recording tool here, and the efficiency collation document here. Finally, as a reminder, the revised benefits methodology is here. If you have any questions, or suggestions on how to improve this please do contact me.
