The apprenticeship levy and contracts

Over the last few months we’ve produced a number of updates on the Apprenticeship Levy. There has been a varied response to the levy from universities, with some seeing it as just an extra cost and concentrating on other activity, while others have sought to integrate apprenticeships into their operations – both as employers and educational providers.

If your interaction with the levy covers anything other than just paying the payroll cost, then your legal team will be kept busy worrying about contracts. The obligations of each party in an apprenticeship contract (typically the employer, the training provider, and the apprentice themselves) can get a little confusing, especially when cross-border provision is taken into account, as each country in the UK has a different approach.
