Tax & Payroll changes - we need your thoughts!
16 May 2017 Amanda Darley, Head of Operations and Engagement
While the calling of an election since the Spring Budget seems to have affected the promised consultation on employer provided living accommodation (it still hasn't materialised), there are still a number of consultations that are of potential interest the HE sector. BUFDG will be submitting responses on behalf of the sector to consultations which are of interest to members.
If you have any comments on any of the following consultations, please contact Amanda by the dates shown below, so your views can be taken into account when compiling any BUFDG responses.
VAT fraud in the construction sector consultation - This consultation proposes a domestic reverse charge on construction services, so could add extra administration to university construction projects - this is well worth having a read and a think about - please provide feedback to Amanda by Friday 19 May
Making Tax Digital: sanctions for late submission and late payment consultation - This consultation proposes a points based system, regular automated compliance reviews from HMRC or suspended penalties, and deals not only with any submissions under the currently delayed Making Tax Digital process, but also regular tax submissions - please provide feedback to Amanda by Friday 19 May
Red diesel call for evidence - The government is trying to learn more about how red diesel is used in the UK to understand how it has changed over time, and how it could change in the future. If you have any evidence or comments on this please provide feedback to Amanda by Friday 23 June
Taxation on employee expenses call for evidence - This responds to the recommendations of the Office of Tax Simplification in August 2013 and July 2014 to see if the current rules or administration could be clearer and simpler, whether the tax rules are fit for purpose in the modern economy and why the cost to the Exchequer of tax relief for expenses which are not reimbursed has increased - please provide feedback to Amanda by Friday 30 June
