Labour manifesto

Topping up our election coverage from last week’s Digest – it was hard to miss the news on Thursday of Labour’s leaked manifesto. However, in the space between newsletters the manifesto has been officially published in full, and as expected it sees the party pledge to abolish tuition fees, as part of a wider £25bn package for education, the BBC reports.  For the old-fashioned folks who haven’t yet migrated to the post-truth world, Wonkhe has an in-depth breakdown of the costs and consequences of the fees proposals, as well as the related one to reintroduce maintenance grants. Elsewhere in the manifesto, Labour plans to remove international students from the migration figures, and raise R&D investment to the OECD target of 3% of GDP.
