Minimum wages independent impact review

20 November 2019      Julia Ascott, Employment Taxes Specialist

An independent impact review on minimum wages by Professor Arindrajit Dube (in consultation with the Low Pay Commission, academics and policy experts) has concluded that minimum wages limits in various countries (including US, Germany, UK, etc) have had a negligible effect on jobs but had significantly increased the earnings of the lowest paid individuals.  However, the report appreciates that the evidence base is still growing and any future changes to minimum wages in the UK should be fully evaluated by the Low Pay Commission.

The Chancellor has used this report to further support his intention to raise the National Living Wage to £10.50 by 2024. To read the full report, click here.
