Mapping the ISO 20400 to the Flexible Framework

12 March 2018      Emma Keenan, Procurement Specialist

As you will be aware, last year saw the launch of the new ISO 20400 guidance for sustainable procurement. It replaces the BS 8903:2010 Principles and Framework for Procuring Sustainably and has been created with the input of experts and industry bodies from than 40 countries, including the British Standards Institution (BSI). We know that the majority of Universities currently use the Flexible Framework and therefore think you will be interested to understand how this new standard relates to that.

NETpositive Futures, working with the University of Manchester has produced an excellent advisory document. It will be useful for anyone interested in understanding more including those institutions starting on their journey of sustainable procurement as well as those currently at level 4 or 5 on the flexible framework. It provides clear information on how the Standard and Flexible Framework compare and offers advice for future action. The document can be accessed by members here.
