Inflation, supply chains and market movement – webinars

22 August 2022      Ashley Shelbrooke, HEPA and Project Specialist

There are 2 webinars coming up next month covering issues surrounding inflation and market movement which look like they will be very useful for members, particularly in the current climate.

How to address rising inflation and material costs in construction contracts

First up, LUPC and UKUPC are hosting a legal webinar which will cover addressing rising inflation and material costs in construction contracts on 13 September at 10AM online.

With UK inflation hitting a 40-year high and the cost of raw building materials in the UK expected to more than treble in 2022 (Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) Materials Cost Index), many higher education institutions are wondering how it will impact their building and construction plans and how their contracts can protect them against these cost pressures.

Niamh Batterton, Legal Director in Bevan Brittan's Commercial & Infrastructure Team, will cover:

  • What practical steps can legal and commercial teams take to mitigate against rising construction costs?
  • What considerations should you take into account if you are planning a future project?
  • What happens if a contractor requests in increase in the contract price during a current project?
  • What elements of your construction contract should you review/amend to deal with inflation and increased costs?

You can register here, and for any queries please contact Roy Dennis.

Supply chain and market movement - The facts, the data and the trends

Second up, colleagues at AUDE and their business partner Sir Robert McAlpine are hosting a webinar on 27 September at 1:30PM exploring supply chain and market movement.

With a comprehensive overview of the market intelligence and trends construction has been facing recently, and the many other reasons for challenges within the supply chain, apart from Covid-19, Brexit and Ukraine, this sector-wide insight will present the facts, the data and the trends that lie behind price and availability pressures we’re all facing in this volatile market.

The session is open to HEPA members, and you can register for your place here.
