The 2021 BUFDG Tax Conference is now open for bookings!

04 May 2021      Andrea Marshall, Tax Specialist

We are very pleased to announce that the annual Tax Conference will be moving back to its June “slot” this year.  It will once again be online and will be held over 4 days from 14 to 17 June 2021. You can book onto the Event here.

The conference is aimed at tax and payroll managers/staff, and others responsible for tax in their HEI, but would be of interest to FDs and Deputy FDs, and potentially HR staff as well. We’ll be providing the usual mix of fantastic technical sessions from a great range of presenters, and we’ll also be giving you the opportunity to chat with and get to know your counterparts in other universities.  You’ll also have the opportunity to chat with advisers and speakers in one-to-one meetings or groups.

Taking your feedback from October on board, there will be longer breaks between the sessions and a longer lunchtime session.  Sessions will run from 9.30 until 10.30; 11.00 until 12.00; 2.00 until 3.00 and 3.30 until 4.30.  There will be an opportunity to get together with your regional colleagues during the lunch breaks and family friendly entertainment has been arranged for the Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 5pm.

On the Tuesday evening we will be joined by Richard Jones, Virtual Magician and winner of Britain’s Got Talent in 2016.  On the Wednesday evening, our resident quiz master, Andrea “Humphries” Marshall will be back with 5 rounds to test your little grey cells.

The full technical programme will be finalised in the next 2 weeks and we will be welcoming back advisors from professional firms for specialist sessions on a wide range of HE specific UK and International tax issues.….but to whet your appetite, we have already confirmed that  HMRC’s HE team will provide an update, Martin Scammell will return with his popular property session, Melanie Hall QC will provide commentary on the current legislation landscape, Rebecca Seeley-Harris will return to deliver a session on employment status and David Miller from the Customs People will help us to navigate the current customs landscape.

The pricing structure is the same as last year: tickets cost £150 (including VAT) for the entire conference and there will be a 20% discount for additional tickets for staff at the same HEI (see details below).  As before, sessions will be recorded and will be available exclusively to conference attendees after the event, so if you’re unable to attend every session or even every day of the conference live, you can easily catch up afterwards.

If you have any questions about the conference itself please contact Andrea or Julia, and please contact Gill with any questions about booking.

Discounts for additional tickets:

When you book your first ticket your booking confirmation email will include a 20% discount code for you to share with colleagues at your own HEI so when the code is used on any additional bookings from the same HEI they will be discounted by 20% (i.e. additional bookings will cost £120 inc. VAT when using the code). Therefore, if you have several bookings to make for your HEI, ensure you book a single ticket first, wait for the discount code in the confirmation email and then book the other tickets. If you are likely to have several bookings from your HEI, please co-ordinate this process before any bookings are made if possible, to avoid the need for refunds as much as possible.
