...and what about just the 'value'?

06 June 2018      Matt Sisson, Projects and Membership Manager

And while we’re talking about the nebulous ‘Value for Money’, the team at Wonkhe have taken up the challenge of explaining why a broader concept of ‘Value’ is a more helpful approach. Louis Coiffait starts by highlighting five ways university add value, which have little to do with the ‘-for money’ bit. Former civil servant Iain Mansfield gets consultant-ey and has a stab at a sector ‘taxonomy of value’ while, in a long read, Jim Dickinson explains why the sector should – and how it might - take control of the value debate.

It’s all very helpful reading, although sometimes a short video can be just as persuasive as a thousand words. What’s the value of this research at the University of Newcastle into 3D-printed corneas? Where does that feature in the debate? Newcastle FD Richard Dale assures us this will make its way into the university’s Integrated Report. Here at BUFDG we’re doing our own bit on this front, with six short videos in the final stages of production that explain, among other things, how universities add value. We look forward to sharing these with you in the next few weeks.
