Integrated thinking in leadership - and conference

08 August 2018      Matt Sisson, Projects and Membership Manager

Over the last couple of years we’ve worked with our member universities to explore how Integrated Thinking and Reporting <IR> could help universities and the wider sector communicate how it creates value, in the many different definitions of the word, for all its stakeholders. We recently put a bit more about all the work we’ve done in this area on its own webpage in the ‘value’ section of the BUFDG site.

Last year, the baton passed to the Leadership Foundation (now Advance HE), as we supported a project they ran on embedding Integrated Thinking across all levels of HE leadership, not just in Finance. The latest step of this project is a conference in London on the 11th September, in which delegates will:

•    Consider how integrated thinking and reporting principles could provide the right framework for institutions to better communicate what they do.
•    Hear how different narratives around value in particular, can help universities tell their stories more effectively.
•    Gain insights from contributors, including the project participants about how taking a more integrated approach has helped them with strategy and stakeholder engagement (including students and governors), as well as influenced financial/organisational reporting for positive impact.
•    Review their understanding of the concept of value and be better able to tell the story of how value is created in an holistic way.
