Improve your HEI's thinking and reporting

02 May 2018      Karel Thomas, Executive Director

In July 2017, BUFDG published a report of the reviews of four universities’ 2015/16 annual reports and financial statements by a specialist panel convened by the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC). Newcastle University was one of those institutions and now Wonkhe has published an article by Dr Colin Campbell of Newcastle University - Integrated thinking and reporting: telling a different story of HE.  Colin says there is “the potential to change the way universities describe and use their resources – not just their financial inputs – to the benefit of all stakeholders.”

Newcastle is one of ten institutions working with AdvanceHE to explore how IT&R can be used in universities. By all accounts, the project meetings have been highly instructive and inspiring, with several institutions keen to implement IT or IR, or both. AdvanceHE is planning a conference on 11th September to share the project findings, the third phase of activity to examine IR in HE. If you are interested in knowing more, save that date. In the foreword to last year’s BUFDG report Richard Howitt, CEO of the IIRC, wrote. “…we welcome all universities to work with us to ensure all providers of Higher Education are talking about the value they create. The sector is crucial for the UK and the rest of the world, and it’s important for all stakeholders to recognise just how much it contributes to our society”.
