The recent announcement by the Oman Tax Authorities now provides certainty that a VAT system will be introduced next year and will affect educational institutions that operate in Oman. From the limited information published by the Oman Tax Authorities, it should be welcome that a positive rate of VAT at 5% will not be applied to the supply of educational services. However, we await further detail on the precise VAT treatment of such services and the impact that such VAT treatment may have on the ability to recover the VAT incurred on the associated costs.
