15 August 2023 Julia Ascott, Employment Taxes Specialist
The BUFDG tax team are winding up for the Autumn, organising a whole host of Time to Talks, regional Tax and Employment tax meetings, plus some in-depth roundtable discussions. Whilst we are waiting to ink over the pencilled in dates, we thought we would whet your appetite on what’s to come over the 2023/24 academic year.
Time to Talk sessions
We have nearly 30 sessions lined up until April/May 2024, taking place on a weekly basis and focusing on areas requested of us. You can look forward to (but not limited to):
Where appropriate, directly after these sessions will be a member-only hour, for members to discuss the presentation and share experiences with peers.
Payroll & Employment tax Group meetings
These will be taking place in-person in the first two weeks of October, kindly hosted by BDO who have promised a free lunch to all attendees (Julia never turns down a free lunch!). Thereafter, the PEGs will be hosted on a quarterly basis online, via teams. Following feedback from the prior PEG meetings, the online PEGs will no longer be held on a regional basis, there will be one session available to all the membership, regardless of your regional base.
Monthly payroll and employment tax surgeries
Once a month, you will be invited to attend an hour long ‘surgery’ for you to bring any current queries, challenges and issues to your peers. We may invite professional advisers along as well, but we’ll take a survey at the first surgery.
Employment status surgeries
With the same format as above, universities will be invited to attend an hour long session to discuss specific employment status queries they may wish to discuss with their peers.
Global mobility roundtables
We are pleased to confirm that Vialto will continue their global mobility roundtables on a quarterly basis, with the next set of in-person meetings scheduled for November. The roundtables are likely to be held in Edinburgh, Liverpool or Manchester, Birmingham and London.
Regional Tax Group meetings
The majority of these will be held on line, but the Northern Group is planning an in-person meeting on 17 October.
Annual employment status training
Our yearly training offering on employment status will be held in March 2024 and is a great way for you to keep up to date with latest case law and HMRC focus, plus a reminder of the rules to ensure your university remains compliant of HMRC’s ‘adequate training’ requirements.
BUFDG Tax Conference 2024
And finally, to end the academic year off, we will be once again hosting the BUFDG Tax Conference. This will be held on-line with the following years’ conference (2025) held in-person.
We hope to see you at one or many of these!
