BUFDG e-learning

A range of e-learning modules, covering finance, procurement, tax, credit control, and more

The BUFDG and HEPA e-learning platform offers a range of more than 40 free and subscription-based e-learning modules, all CPD certified, covering finance, procurement, tax, credit control, and more. All modules available to your university/HEP can be accessed by ALL staff within your institution (they are not limited to, or only relevant to, Finance staff).

You don't need a different username, password or any extra enrolment keys - if you have a BUFDG or HEPA website account then you can access the 12 free courses, and if your institution has a subscription to BUFDG Pro (the vast majority do), you can access all the additional courses too.

How to access the e-learning

Simply select the button below (you will be asked to log in if you are not currently logged into our website).

If you don't have a website account and you are a member of staff from one of our member institutions, you have two options:

  1. (RECOMMENDED) If you would like a full website account which gives you access to all the website resources and discussion boards, then please register here. (We recommend this option as it gives access to book events or view resources as well as use e-learning courses).
  2. If you just wish to access the e-learning ONLY, then please visit the quick registration page where you can set up an account for accessing the e-learning. (NB: you will not be able to access other resources or book events, so we recommend option 1 above).

Which course(s)?

BUFDG Pro (and BUFDG/HEPA’s free e-learning modules) cover compliance, tax, procurement, business partnering, credit control, and general finance issues, with more topics/modules in the pipeline. But it isn’t always obvious who each of the modules is aimed at. These pages below should help your university to make the most of its BUFDG Pro membership by ensuring the right staff undertake the right modules – some of them may be suitable for quite a lot more of your university’s staff than you imagined.

E-learning completion reports

Each institution can request access to the e-learning completion reports, enabling you to keep track of CPD within your team or institution. We automatically provide access to run the reports to each FD and Deputy FD (or equivalent), and can provide access to any of the following within your institution on request: the FD’s PA, the Head of Procurement, a nominated finance training colleague and/or a learning and development contact (who may sit in HR). To request access for any of these individuals, please contact Rachel.

When you have access, you can run the report through the BUFDG website as follows:
- On the BUFDG homepage, select the teal 'My Dashboard' button in the top right hand corner.
- Under your name, you will see a link that states 'Reports for My Institution'. Click on this link.
- You will then see a link for 'E-Learning Completion Report'. Click on this link.
- It will show you a list of what has been completed and by who.  You can either view this online, or download as a pdf or excel file. Any problems, please get in touch with Rachel

BUFDG E-learning Introduction

We’d like to tell you about BUFDG’s e-learning courses.

What is BUFDG? It’s the British Universities Finance Directors Group. It provides information, guidance, and support regarding H E finance to staff working in universities/H E I s. BUFDG’s members are institutions, not individuals, so anyone working in an H E I which is a BUFDG member can access BUFDG’s website, services and e-learning.

BUFDG has 11 e-learning courses that are FREE to use for staff in all BUFDG member H E I s. There are also a further 31 courses free to use for all staff in H E I s that subscribe to BUFDG Pro (87% of our member H E I s subscribe). Many of the courses are written for our members i.e. finance staff in H E I s, but others are suitable for staff outside of central finance, and several of the courses were specifically written with non-finance staff in mind.

So what does the e-learning look like?

(The video then shows some screen captures of working through some elements of a couple of the e-learning courses.)

There are interactive exercises, questions and worked examples to keep your brain active, as well as a quiz to pass at the end in order to complete the course.

(The video then shows some screen captures of working through a worked example on one of the e-learning courses.)

There are over 40 different courses. Many are for H E finance staff and some are suitable for non-finance staff. Some were written specifically for administrators and non-finance staff.

There’s no cost! The courses are FREE to ALL staff in BUFDG/BUFDG Pro member H E I s.
