SAE granted leave to appeal in VAT exemption case

SAE Education Ltd has been granted leave to appeal the Court of Appeal's decision (which determined that SAE was not a 'college of a university' and therefore its supplies of education were not exempt from VAT). The outcome of the appeal could prove important to universities working with partners to provide some of their courses to students, as having to charge VAT on such courses may make them uneconimical leaving universities in a difficult financial position. We do not yet know the date on which the appeal will be heard.
