Finance Business Partnering Foundations

This event will be presented online.  Part 1 on Friday 1 April and Part 2 on Friday 8 April

Timings: 10am - 1pm (on both days) 

This online workshop, spread over two 3-hour modules, is for you if you wish to establish yourself in a Finance Business Partnering role and to set solid foundations for success.  It includes what true business partnering is, core partnering skills and mindsets, and tips and tools that can be used in practice at work to develop your role.

• New Finance Business Partners
• Aspiring Business Partners
• Management Accountants who want to develop more of a partnership approach.
• Existing Business Partners who wish to refresh and track their progress

Objectives:

By the end of the course you will have:

• Identified what true ‘business partnering’ is in HE, and the value of the FBP role
• Explored how your own role and activities currently fit against a business partnering template and gained practical tips for developing your role
• Identified what it means to ‘add value’ as a Finance Business Partner in practice; gained practical techniques to enable proactivity
• Insights into building and managing stakeholder relationships when you do not have direct ‘power’
• Insights into core BP competencies, and have gained techniques in core partnering skills such as ‘contracting’
• A comprehensive Finance Business Partnering Toolkit to take away and use at work

• What is business partnering and its benefits to your institution?
• How to prepare for business partnering - strategic alignment and working as one team
• Mapping your activities; getting out of the transactional
• The role of the Business Partner – your ‘lift speech’
• A Finance Business Partnering implementation case study from HE with hints and tips
• What is ‘adding value’ in practice and what could it look like for you?
• Tools and techniques for proactivity in business partnering
• The ‘consultancy’ roles of the Business Partner and choosing your role situationally
• Building credible stakeholder relationships and an influencing plan
• Exploring core skills and competencies and developing a personal plan
• Breakout groups to enable you to explore a key topic of your choice and network with others
