Structure

We propose to spend the first half of the session presenting based on current technical updates and what we are seeing in the market place covering employment taxes, immigration and global mobility. The second part of the session will be interactive to allow time for attendees to ask relevant questions and have an open forum for discussion purposes on any current global mobility issues and challenges faced by UK Universities.

As a roundtable we aim for this session to be a forum for raising some of the current technical updates as well as providing an opportunity for interactive discussion, individuals can raise any specific thoughts and / or queries in a safe environment of KPMG experts and peers. 

Content

The session will focus on 3 areas:

  • Our Employment tax team – will provide an update on the payrolling of benefits including the newly announced phased approach, HMRC compliance activity and will discuss HMRC’s current focus areas and provide an update in respect of HMRC’s stance around visa expenses.
  • Our Immigration team – will discuss current trends in immigration practice with a focus on the changing landscape, the compliance obligations and impact on payrolling data and linking into the additional complexities arising in respect of visa expenses. The focus will be on inbound immigration as well as outbound immigration and the key considerations where Universities set up campuses overseas and the compliance obligations that arise.
  • Our Global Mobility Services team – will cover key changes in social security with particular focus on the newly announced UK/India Double Contributions Convention.
