BUFDG Annual Meeting 2024

21-22 May
Edgbaston Park Conference Centre, University of Birmingham

WELCOME!

We’re pleased to welcome you to the BUFDG Annual Meeting 2024, the face-to-face get together for university FDs/CFOs. It's a unique opportunity to meet colleagues, share challenges, and gain high-level, HE-specific finance knowledge. This year it takes place at the University of Birmingham's Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre, on Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May.

The business programme (including this year's BUFDG AGM) is on Wednesday 22nd May (running from 9am – 4pm), with an informal dinner on the evening of Tuesday 21st May. As with last year, we’ll also be hosting a range of 'fringe' meetings on the afternoon of Tuesday 21st May (1.30pm - 4.30pm approx., but starting 11am for Russell Group / University Alliance) for you to meet and discuss challenges with colleagues in a similar situation. These meetings include the various mission groups and 'smaller HEPs' and 'larger HEPs' meetings. Use the links on the right hand-side for all the programme details.

ACCOMMODATION AND DINNER

Accommodation is available on site at the Edgbaston Park Hotel. The dinner will also take place here.

PROGRAMME

The meeting on the 22nd provides the opportunity to hear from a range of excellent speakers across four in-depth plenary sessions, and to network and discuss with fellow FDs. The sessions include:

  • An economic and fiscal outlook from the IFS' HE specialist Kate Ogden
  • Net-zero and 'shareholder value' with LGIM's Head of Climate Solutions, Nick Stansbury
  • CFOs and technology leadership in HE, with Heidi Fraser-Krauss, CEO of Jisc, and
  • Financial resilience, options, and leadership, with Sam Sanders (KPMG), and Niamh Lamond, COO at Swansea

For the full programme and timings, visit the programme page.

SUPPORTER / SECTOR INVOLVEMENT

We’re sticking with the format of last year’s event, and are hosting just 25-30 specifically invited delegates from the most significant sector supporters – including the major banks, auditors, and pensions advisers, and representatives from other HE organisations. They are there to contribute to the sessions and discussions and share their expertise as required. There are no stands, exhibition, or other sponsorship.

TRAVEL

As the university has its own train station (see below), we would encourage you where possible to travel by public transport. If you do decide to drive, then there is free parking on site. There are also several charging points - more information can be found here. Please also be aware that Birmingham has a ULEZ zone.

University station is the closest railway station to Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre. It is around a 15 minute walk. We will be operating a signposted shuttle service from 12.30-13.30 on Tuesday afternoon. Please note that if you are attending either the University Alliance or Russell Group fringe meetings (that start from 11am) you will therefore need to make your own way from the station to Edgbaston Park.

If you have any questions or comments please do email Gill Birch or Matt Sisson
