Eleanor Austin - Associate Director, Grant Thornton UK LLP

Eleanor has worked at Grant Thornton for almost 14 years, 11 of which have been specialising in Employment Tax and Global Mobility. She sits on the BUFDG Payroll & Employment Tax Group (PEG) and supports her clients on a variety of matters including policy design, management of expatriate populations, compliance with off-payroll working rules, support with HMRC reviews, and expenses and benefits guidance.

Davyd Fisher - Director, Grant Thronton UK LLP

Davyd has over 18 years' experience in Global Mobility and Employment Tax services, helping clients to mobilise their employees internationally, as well as supporting with domestic tax compliance. He works with a variety of clients, including a number of Higher Education providers, supporting them with their mobility policies, cross border taxation issues and other compliance requirements.

Laurie Pay - Director, Deloitte UK LLP

Laurie leads the Deloitte education team and has been with the firm for 23 years. 

Susan Ball - Partner, RSM

Susan is a Tax Partner at RSM UK working in the employment related taxes field, with 35 years tax experience and 20 years of third/public sector board experience (assisting with strategy, HR, finance and risk) including in Higher and Further Education. 

She is a board member of The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), the leading UK body for taxation professionals, was President May 2022- May 2023 and is a member its Employment Taxes Technical Committee. She is  also member of the HMRC’s Construction Forum.

Martin Scammell

Martin is a self-employed author and occasional consultant, specialising in VAT on property and construction matters. He regularly assists BUFDG in discussions with HMRC, is technical secretary to the British Property Federation’s VAT Committee and has various roles on HMRC committees and working parties. Martin has been an industry expert on estates matters for many years, in HM Customs & Excise, as a partner at Ernst & Young and as Head of Indirect Tax at Eversheds. Kirsty Rockall - Grant Thornton UK LLP

Louise Gannon - Director, Grant Thornton UK LLP

Louise leads Grant Thornton’s Not-for-Profit Corporate Tax team, working with a number of universities across the UK. Louise joined Grant Thornton ten years ago, following nearly seven years at Deloitte. She is both ACA and CTA qualified.   Throughout Louise’s career she has provided both corporate tax compliance and advisory services to the university sector. Helping universities manage their corporate tax risks, whilst recommending tax efficient structures which take advantage of any applicable charitable exemptions. Louise is a previous speaker at the BUFDG tax conference. 

Caroline Jones - Director, Employment Taxes - HE Lead, BDO

Caroline is well known and highly valued advisor in the higher education sector within her specialism of employment tax (over 47 years with 20 years at HMRC!). She has worked with (and for) BUFDG for many years and is BDO's national HE Employment Tax leader. 

Anthony Drozdowski - Director KPMG UK Trade & Customs, KPMG

Anthony has over 30 years of Customs experience and knowledge having worked in the freight industry for 10 years, and at HMRC for over 14 years before working in Customs consultancy for the last 7 years.
He has extensive industry wide Customs knowledge from all sides, and can understand clients perspective by putting himself in their shoes to tailor the right solution for them.

Danny Robinson - Manager, KPMG UK Trade & Customs, KPMG

Daniel has been with KPMG for 2.5 years supporting across all vast range of customs matters, from supporting clients create and implement customs procedures and compliance checks (including automation and data analytics), managing complex customs queries with HMRC and other Government departments, and delivering workshops for Universities to help them understand their customs obligations as well as day-to-day customs support.

Daniel joined from HMRC Solicitor’s Office where he spent 6.5 years managing appeals in the Tax Tribunal and a customs reviews compliance team across the UK and has in-depth knowledge and experience of customs law and policy.

Simon Twells - Customs Advisor, University of Warwick

Simon joined the University of Warwick in January 2023 as Customs Advisor. He has previously worked for twelve years in a number of customs facing and logistics roles in the heavy machinery, recycling and aerospace sectors, most recently as a senior manager for customs compliance in the EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions, and has extensive experience of working alongside internal stakeholders and third parties such as couriers, freight forwarders, agents and HMRC. 

Jas Hundal - Senior Manager, Vialto Partners

Jas' focus area is global mobility tax and consulting services, helping his clients get the most out of their international mobile population. He has experience of working with a number of Higher Education institutions and Non-Profit organisations. Jas also plays a key role in Vialto Partners Contingent Work platform, an innovative digital solution that transforms the management of the global contingent workforce to help organisations and workers address tax risks confidently. 

Alexander Grishin - Manager, Vialto Partners

Alex is a manager at Vialto Partners UK with 10+ years of experience working in the professional service industry environments within both EMEA and APAC. Alex has experience of working on a number of Higher Education clients specializing in the areas of global mobility, expatriate taxes and social security and wider compliance for inbound and outbound individuals.
